FAQs About Korea

Got questions about traveling to Korea? Our FAQ section has you covered!

South Korea feels like a beautiful blend of rich history and modernity. Alongside its ancient temples and historical landmarks, it is also very advanced, making it easy to explore the country thanks to its fast bullet trains. Korean culture is also influential worldwide, especially in music, movies, and TV shows. So if you’re into K-pop and K-dramas, Korea is a must-visit!

In general, South Korea is a very safe country. However, I’d suggest being cautious of drunk people when walking in Seoul. Occasionally, you may see some physical altercations on the street, so it’s best to steer clear of those situations. Just exercise the usual safety precautions you would in any other country.

Many Koreans, especially younger people in big cities like Seoul and Busan, know some English, but the level can vary. English is taught in schools, and you’ll find signs in English in tourist areas and on public transport. But outside the big cities, fewer people speak English, so learning a few basic Korean phrases or using a translation app can be helpful.

For Korea, pack clothes depending on the season:

Winter (December to February): Warm clothes like a heavy coat, scarves, gloves, and hats.
Spring (March to May): Layers like a light jacket, sweaters, and long pants. It can be cool in the mornings and evenings.
Summer (June to August): Light, breathable clothes, sunscreen, and a hat. It can be hot and humid.
Autumn (September to November): A mix of warm layers, like sweaters and a light jacket. It’s cool but not too cold.

Also, bring comfortable shoes for walking and a raincoat or umbrella in case of rain.

How much money you need for Korea depends on your plans, but here’s a basic idea:

Daily Budget: For a mid-range budget, around $50 to $100 per day should cover meals, transportation, and some sightseeing.
Accommodation: Budget hotels or hostels cost about $30 to $70 per night.
Food: You can find meals for $5 to $15 each, depending on where you eat.
Transportation: Public transport is affordable, with subway and bus fares around $1 to $2 per ride.

It’s a good idea to have a bit extra for shopping, attractions, and emergencies. Bringing a credit or debit card is also handy for convenience.

Korea isn’t too expensive, but it really depends on what you’re doing. You can find budget-friendly options for food and accommodation, especially if you stick to local spots and budget hotels. If you go for fancy restaurants or high-end hotels, it can get pricey. Overall, it’s pretty affordable if you plan wisely.

The currency of South Korea is the South Korean Won, often abbreviated as KRW or symbolized as .
